Getting ready to switch off your Storage Heater for summer

ARE YOU READY TO TURN YOUR STORAGE HEATER OFF THIS SUMMER?

With Winter gone, spring here and summer on the horizon are you ready to turn your Storage Heaters off till Autumn? Probably the answer is yes, which is fine but there are a few simple things you need to do before turning off your storage heater to maintain its life and efficiency, so it is ready to keep your home warm again when winter makes a return.

So why is it not as simple as just turning my storage heater off?

Even when turned off your storage heater still requires light maintenance because while turning your storage heater off saves energy, it also allows for dust to build up within the storage heater itself. This could allow a layer of dust to form like a blanket around the internal elements which will give unpleasant fumes when first turned back on again. As with all electrical heaters, dust build up could cause a storage heater to overheat and although the chances are low a large build up could cause the dust to ignite, so simple maintenance to keep internal dust under control is the best policy.

How do I make sure my storage heater stays efficient?

There are many ways to keep your Storage Heater from decreasing in efficiency, one such way is by having your storage heaters checked up on every 2 years. Although your storage heater is not required to be checked annually like a traditional gas heating system, it is still good practice to have them checked every few years to make sure everything is working correctly and as efficiently as possible. A simple do it yourself routine during the summer to get rid of any dust is to turn on your heater on once every few weeks and allow the internal balancing element to come on to burn any dust that may have settled. Additionally, we would recommend giving your storage heater a wipe over using a damp cloth around the vents and inlets.

Key tips to remember this summer…

1. Wipe your storage heater over using a damp cloth periodically.

2. Turn your storage heaters balancing element on to burn any dust that may have settled.

3. Every few weeks allow your storage heater to charge over night to ensure it is charging & heating correctly.

4. We hope this helps but call us on 01942670119 or email us at info@elnur.co.uk if you have any problems or questions.
